Welcome To Candyland Thoroughbred Farm
CandyLand was established in 1986 by Herb and Ellen Moelis. Our focus is to maintain a quality broodmare band, which is bred to quality stallions in the hope of producing quality foals. We offer them as yearlings for sale through auctions conducted by Fasig Tipton and Keeneland. For those yearlings who do not meet a reasonable reserve we race under Candy Stable.
The farm is located in Middletown, Delaware, on 160 acres of excellent farmland. It is separated into a broodmare section with eight large paddocks for mares and foals and a yearling complex with many smaller paddocks and a free walker for preparing yearlings for sale. Almost all fields have a run in shelter that allows for as much outdoor living for the horses as possible. Our General Manager, Mike Palmer, and most of our staff live on the farm and are in effect “on duty” 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Simply --- all horses in our care are cared for just as if they were our own.
CandyLand was strictly a private farm until 2002 when the Delaware Certified Thoroughbred Program (DCTP) was instituted. Candyland opened its doors to offer boarding in order to help the program succeed. Since inception of the DCTP program, we have boarded and certified in excess of 300 horses for the program.
CandyLand is a perennial leading consignor at the Fasig Tipton Fall Mid-Atlantic Yearling Sale. In 2008 CandyLand sold the highest priced colt at $320,000. Over the past five years, CandyLand has been in the top five consignors every year, topping the list in 2008.
